Event date: October 18-20, 2017

Addictions Health Services Research is the premier conference for researchers, policy makers, and community members to identify how to improve access, delivery, and financing to treat individuals with addiction problems.  She gave a talk on how lesbian, gay, bisexual and heterosexual adults seek help for addiction services, including how cultural challenges often affect LGB individuals’ decisions (such as that many addiction treatment centers are religiously affiliated which may not be supportive). That project is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and led by Dr. Heather Corliss. Dr. Wisdom provided consultation on qualitative and mixed methods and project management. At AHSR, Dr. Wisdom also discussed some aspects of Hildi Hagedorn’s research project to increase primary care providers to use pharamacotherapy for alcohol use disorders. This Minneapolis Veterans Health Administration project, for which Dr. Wisdom consulted, identify patient perspectives that suggested they are not aware of options regarding pharmacotherapy for alcohol use and might need more information from their providers.
